Behind the beans
High in the hills of Quindio, Colombia you will find Finca Jardines de Eden or 'Garden of Paradise.' The farm is owned by Felipe Arcila, a fourth generation coffee producer renowned for pushing the boundaries of speciality coffee. This is our first Limited Release coffee and is a truly unique – an extremely rare coffee varietal called Papayo - originating from Acevedo, Huila. The ripe cherries turn orange and the shape is similar to papaya. We were lucky enough to secure the entirety of this microlot, with only 24kg produced this season. The cup profile is incredibly complex with defined flavours of jasmine, panela, apricot, lime and sweet dark chocolate.
Origin: Jardines del Eden, Quindio, Colombia
Quindio is in the 'Coffee Cultural Landscape' UNESCO world heritage site and has a subtropical highland climate. Along with rich volcanic soils, it makes for excellent growing conditions. Finca Jardines del Eden was purchased by the Arcila brothers Felipe and Carlos with the intention of experimenting with exotic varietals and new processing methods. This coffee was exposed to a dry aerobic fermentation for 24 hours before being placed in grain pro bags for a further 50 hours at 22c.
Due to the limited availability of this coffee, it is only available in 250g.
