The Journey of Born and Bread
What started as a sibling venture between Ali and his sister, Libby, in 2018 has now evolved into Eleven—a fabulous café experience that continues their tradition of quality, warmth, and community connection.
The story of Born and Bread is one of passion, perseverance, and a little bit of stubbornness. Ali and Libby, both drawn to entrepreneurship, initially explored separate business ideas—Ali in graphic design and Libby in bespoke afternoon tea catering. However, it wasn’t until a visit to The Almond Thief, an artisan bakery in Devon, that inspiration struck. Ali returned home, determined to master the craft of bread-making, and after countless experiments, the foundation of Born and Bread was laid.
Despite early skepticism from market research and even family, they pushed forward, honing their skills and building a loyal customer base. Their dedication to quality and community engagement led to a thriving business, beloved for its fresh sourdough, pastries, and warm hospitality.
The Evolution to Eleven
Handcrafted, beautifully crafted coffee was always important to these guys. which is why they partnered with Beanworks. By the end of 2023, after a particularly challenging year, the siblings reflected on the future of their business. They realised that the pace of running two shops had made it difficult to maintain the level of personal connection they cherished with customers. Wanting to create a more intimate, high-quality café experience, they decided to evolve Born and Bread into Eleven.
Eleven is a space designed for connection, where customers can enjoy an exceptional cup of coffee in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The focus is on refining their offerings, from expertly brewed coffee to pastries crafted with the freshest ingredients.
A Partnership with Beanworks Coffee Roasters
Since day one, Eleven has proudly served Beanworks coffee, which has become a favourite among their customers. As a business that values craftsmanship and sustainability, Eleven appreciates Beanworks’ commitment to quality and trend-conscious roasting.
“Beanworks has been a brilliant partner for many years. The team is incredibly friendly, deeply knowledgeable about coffee, and always open to exploring new ways to elevate our café’s coffee program. Their exceptional coffee has played a key role in helping us gain the recognition we have today.”
With the introduction of their new Eagle One Victoria Arduino coffee machine, Eleven is eager to take their coffee game to the next level.
What’s on the Menu?
First-time visitors are encouraged to try their signature coffee paired with one of their house-made pastries. Regular staples include croissants, pain au chocolat, almond croissants, and cinnamon buns, while monthly specials highlight seasonal ingredients. Additionally, the menu is expanding with new savoury lunch options, keeping things fresh and exciting.
Commitment to Community & Sustainability
Eleven isn’t just a café—it’s a community hub. Whether customers stop in for a morning coffee, a casual meet-up, or a productive work session, the goal is to create a space that feels inviting and inclusive, with the team knowing many of their regular customers by name. Looking ahead, the team is interested in collaborating with local groups and hosting events, further integrating Eleven into the fabric of the village.
Looking Forward
Eleven is more than a name change—it’s a reinvention of what made Born and Bread special. With a focus on quality, sustainability, and meaningful customer interactions, it remains a must-visit destination for coffee and pastry lovers alike.
