This isn’t your standard sleepy cup of decaf. We’ve crafted something bold, flavour-first, and endlessly drinkable.

Sugarcane Fermentation for Natural Decaf Coffee

The Sugarcane Method: Natural, Clever, Delicious

We use the sugarcane process—a method as smooth as the cup it creates. Here’s how it goes:

  • The beans get a gentle steam bath.

  • They’re rinsed with Ethyl Acetate (a naturally occurring compound from fermented sugarcane—nothing scary, nothing artificial).

  • The caffeine slips out, but the flavour stays right where it belongs.

The result? A cup that’s alive with flavour: think roasted almonds, brown sugar sweetness, and a little citrus lift at the end. No flat, muted decaf vibes here. Just clean, balanced coffee that happens to be caffeine-free. Winner!

But not all decaf coffee is processed this way…

At Beanworks, we don’t do “second-best” beans for decaf. We roast the same high-quality, carefully sourced lots as we do for everything else in our line-up. Because decaf drinkers deserve coffee that tastes just as epic as the rest.

Judges loved the complexity, the sweetness, the balance. This is coffee that earns respect—decaf or not.

Frequently Asked Questions

You asked, we answered.
Frequently Asked Questions
You asked, we answered.
  • What is Decaf Coffee?

Decaf coffee is coffee that’s had most of its caffeine removed during a decaffeination process. But don’t worry, it still delivers on taste. Our decaf coffees are nothing like instant coffee. They’re roasted to perfection, without compromising on taste – just like the rest of our range, using high-quality beans packed with flavour. So if you’re swapping out your regular coffee for something gentler, this is decaf that still tastes special.

  • What Other Coffee Beans Do You Sell?

We’re glad you asked! Beyond our decaf coffees, we’ve got house favourites, seasonal releases, and lots of delicious blends and single origins. Whether you’re into bold flavours or fruity, floral notes – there’s something exciting in every bag.

  • What is the Caffeine Removal Process?

There are a few ways to remove caffeine from green coffee beans, and some types of coffee (specifically Arabica, which has half the amount of Robusta), already start out with less. The most popular decaffeination methods include:

    • Sugarcane fermentation, a natural direct contact method where beans are rinsed in a sugarcane-derived compound.

    • The water process, where beans are soaked in hot water to create green coffee extract. This extract is then used to draw out the caffeine.

    • The carbon dioxide method, which uses pressure and CO₂ to pull caffeine out.

Each one has its perks, but we love sugarcane fermentation for its flavour-saving superpowers.

  • How Much Caffeine is in Decaf?

There’s still a whisper of caffeine in decaf. We’re talking traces caffeine molecules, not enough to cause a stir. The caffeine content is super low, so while it’s not 100% caffeine free, you can sip without the spike.

  • What are the Benefits of Drinking Decaf?

The benefits of drinking decaf are that you still get delicious flavour and that roasty, rich aroma, without the jitters. Decaf is perfect if you’re trying to lower your blood pressure as a result of hypertension, influence your sleeping patterns, or just ease off the buzz. Since the caffeine is decreased, your system stays chill, but your cup doesn’t have to. Big win.
